Every time I turn around, Pixelmator Pro is doing something new, something cool, something better and it’s just fantastic. Pixelmator Pro is on the very top of my watch list for what incredible photo editing technology is about to get popular.

Pixelmator Pro doesn’t pull punches when it comes to editing photos. It’s not generic applications of filters, it’s not a set of precanned special effects. From their AI Enhance to non-destructive highly-granular controls for experts, coupled now with automation I’m constantly turning to Pixelmator Pro and it’d got my back every time. Like many, I have used Photoshop for a very long time—since the early 90s. I was very upset when Adobe switched to a subscription model which I thought was expensive, and started to look for a replacement.

I had dabbled with Pixelmator a few years ago but was able to keep Photoshop CS5 going on my Mac and was able to stick with it, even as far as Mojave. But then a few months ago, Photoshop finally started to crash every time I launched it and I was unable to use it anymore.

I tried Affinity Photo after having read good reviews, and it is a powerful program, but the User Interface and commands are too different from Photoshop and the learning curve was too steep for me. So I gave Pixelmator a second look and was pleased to find that the UI and commands were quite intuitive and more similar to Photoshop.

I highly recommend this app: it fulfills all my needs and the price is right. It’s easy to use and works great. You can’t go wrong with this. Use color adjustments layers to combine different color adjustments, selectively edit photos with incredible precision, and change the look entire layered compositions with ease.

You’ll see a live preview of your brush stroke as you adjust its basic and advanced settings. You can also simulate tablet pressure and set a maximum pressure location for your brush strokes. The redesigned Paint tool features an all-new brush browser with the ability to search for brushes by name. After changing the settings of a brush, you’ll also be able to update the selected preset with just a click. The Paint tool now includes a Smoothing feature that will automatically smooth your brush strokes as you paint.

Redesigned Type Tool The Type tool has received a makeover and now includes a text size slider, buttons for changing text size in small increments, a text field, and text size presets, bringing a wide variety of ways to resize text.

The new Advanced Options action pop-up menu makes character spacing, baseline, baseline shift, and ligature options easier to reach. The new Spacing section lets you adjust line height and space before and after paragraphs. The new Indents section gives you a way to adjust paragraph indents for the first line and the left and right sides. Double-clicking the thumbnail of a text layer will now choose the Type tool. Character spacing can now be set much more precisely, with the ability to enter decimal values.

Improvements The options for adjusting the color of the Pixelmator Pro window background have been updated, adding presets specifically designed for working with images of various colors.

To quickly change the color of the window background, you can now Control-click anywhere outside your image. The color of the checkerboard will now adapt to dark and light appearances. The Selective Color adjustment will now appear above the Color Balance adjustment.

When deleting cropped areas, line shapes that are partially outside the canvas will no longer be deleted. Pressing and holding the Option key while dropping layers into your compositions will now turn off automatic layer naming. Option-Command-clicking a layer thumbnail will now load a selection according to the grayscale values of an image. You’ll also find this in the Edit menu when pressing and holding the Shift key. I highly recommend this app: it fulfills all my needs and the price is right. Apple checks back to the year of manufacture for my Mac Pro core and says not supported. So, I could not update even after I was allowed by the App Store to purchase it at version 1. I’ve maxed out with everything available that could work in my machine until the new Mac Pro comes out late this year. So it does work great and the nice thing the Pixelmator Pro Team did for me was to provide me with a download because I’ve already purchased their finen product.

So, I’m good to go again. This may be a good app, but it confuses me a lot, I’m not a professional graphics editor, but I can use most of basic functions on Photoshop without problem, on this one, i simply have no idea.
