We have a random issue on one machine where when we attempt to open one specific folder from the Desktop, windows explorer stops responding and must be restarted. All other folders function normally. We have restarted windows explorer, rebooted the computer, checked the folder properties, but can’t seem to figure out what the issue is. It is a Windows 10 machine. Copy data from that folder to another temp folder, delete the problem folder, restart pc, create new folder with same name if, copy data back in.

Do Clean Boot and try again. Does anything show up in the Event Viewer when this happens? There may be an event ID linked to the issue. Take note of the exact time you attempted to open the folder and see if you can match that to an event. Are there any special characters hidden or not in the name of the folder or any of the files contained therein? This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting.

Have you tried with another user account? Have you installed any AV on the machine? Have you tried opening that folder in the safe mode? Have you tried renaming the folder or making a copy?
