I’ve learned a lot from Scott Kelby, so when I finally decided to purchase Lightroom 6 DVD–I’m not pleased with all of these software subscription plans , this book was an easy choice.

Kelby does an excellent job of explaining the “how-to’s” and getting you started without feeling overwhelmed. I appreciate that he recommends certain settings, so you don’t have to guess. You can always change them, if you find a need for something different. That said, LR is a complex program, so plan to take your time. Read a chapter and try it out before going on to the next one.

There are files you can download to practice with if you don’t want to use your own pics. The Kelby One website is also a fantastic resource for photographers, if you want to learn more about photography and photo editing, and gives you unlimited access to world class instruction. The explanations are simple and straight to the point. Areas of improvement: 1. Too much waste of empty space between the illustrative pictures.

The empty spaces could have been minimized and the illustrative pictures larger so one can read the labels easily. I find myself squinting my eyes to read the small labels he was highlighting. The writer assumes you must have your laptop or computer by your side with lightroom opened while reading this book.

Sometimes you do not have your laptop and want to read this book e. This would have been a fun book to read if you do not have to squint at those tiny labels. It should not take much effort by the author to make those illustrative pictures larger and minimize those empty wasted spaces in between the pictures. Some areas he will ask you to skip to some pages ahead and read up an item and then come back to where you were. I found this interruptive and very disruptive.

I tried to ignore some but found it difficult to do so since he had already mentioned it. It Is better to describe the subject now and now, and then add a comment that the reader will come across that point again later. I do read Scott Kelby articles on shutterbug. I hope he will address these points in a later edition,if there will be one. I will gladly pay again to buy an improved edition. This book by Scott Kelby I recommend to the lightroom dummies like myself.

That could be a fitting preamble to this book. Scott Kelby’s Lightroom CC book for digital photographers is top notch. His writing style of keeping things simple continues in this book. It is well organized and indexed well. He gives different ways of doing the same task but usually with good reasons to do it one way. His humor is a good break from tedious reading and his book is not tedious. His pictures are great in the book and compliment the text. I am trying to transition from Aperture to Lightroom and Mr Kelby has made the transition much easier.

But where Mr Kelby really shines is helping to make your photos even better. His techniques for making a bad photo great are things you just cannot find experimenting with a photo program. He will make you a good photo editor. Yes, I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who feels overwhelmed with Lightroom.

And he offers many other prizes by visiting his web site and using many of his videos. I was an Adobe Photoshop Elements user and purchased this book to help make the transition to Adobe Lightroom. The book is pages including the index. Lightroom is primarily for professionals who make a lot of photos per day like the author Scott Kelby.

But Lightroom offers more photo importing, processing, and presentation options than Adobe Photoshop Elements. I am not a professional in the sense that I am photographing every day but I am planning a trip where I might shoot well over a thousand photos in a two week period. So Scott Kelby’s suggestion to use an external harddrive for photos is golden. There is a lot more for me to learn but Scott Kelby has written a book that has the information necessary. One person found this helpful.

Very good book for someone who switched from another program to Lightroom 6. Walked me through the program and what it is capable of doing and also showed examples.

Very good explanation of organizing your photos and storage. The book’s author gives reasons why he uses certain functions of the program along with the steps to accomplish what he is explaining. I keep the book next to my computer and refer to it as I process images. Well worth the money for me and I recommend it if your new to the software.

OK, I just got started on this book, and I have nothing but respect for Mr. Kelby for sharing his knowledge. I mean this must have been written without the ADHD medication! I think I’ll get over it.

But if you are looking for linear reading, you will end up bitting your fingernails, your fingers to stubs. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.

I’m only 37 pages into this book and though I admit the book looks pretty and simple to follow, I cannot express how truly terrible, disorganized and confusing the book has already been.

Chapter 1 urges the reader to organize one’s photos into a file system and place them on a backup drive, NOT the hard drive. Unfortunately, crucial information on how to do this properly, and pitfalls to avoid, was lacking and those omissions resulted in multiple duplicates of my photos in the Lightroom catalog. It’s no small task eliminating duplicates from Lightroom–something not covered in this book–so I had to wipe everything out import thousands of photos again. Unfortunately, Chapter 2 contradicts the instructions in chapter 1, advising the reader to place all photos back on the hard drive otherwise loading photos will be too slow!

That process was not as described and I lost most of my but backed up photo data. As a result of that, I had to wipe clean the Lightroom library again and import photos into the app’s catalog system a third time! The author also advises the reader to organize the photos in a certain fashion in chapter 1, but as it turns out, a lot, if not most of the organization was unnecessary and in fact, will actually make it harder to organize them in Lightroom’s catalogs and collections system.

Update: Once past that nightmare, I think the book is helpful. Great effort is made to simplify complex operations, diagrams are reasonably good, the writing is engaging. There are a few glaring deficiencies in this book. I wanted to enlarge a photo to work on blemishes and such. How does one do that? Good luck finding it. It certainly doesn’t jump out in the index. After an hour of infuriating fumbling around, I concluded that I need to go to the library view to enlarge, then back to the develop section to effect the changes.

That’s crazy. Retouch light and color to make camera photos pop. Easy photo editor sliders let you control photo properties from your phone screen. Crop and Rotate tools find the right size and aspect ratio to best show off your camera work. Create clean camera shots with straight lines by adjusting perspective with powerful upright, guided upright, and Geometry sliders. Experiment with and compare photo edits without losing the original and pick your favorite look. Access all your presets anywhere.

Image edits on one device are automatically applied everywhere else. Retouch and control images with selective adjustments. Remove almost anything with a touch of the Healing Brush. Local Hue Adjustments as part of selective edits alter hue and saturation precisely and elevate your photos. His techniques for making a bad photo great are things you just cannot find experimenting with a photo program.

He will make you a good photo editor. Yes, I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who feels overwhelmed with Lightroom. I have read many of his books and cover to cover his style keeps me interested with his simple descriptive and colourful step by step guides to using Lightroom.

This book is without adoubt a must read book for anyone who is interested in mastering Lightroom CC. This is yet another book by Kelby that enables the user to find in the index what needs to be achieved and immediately discover how to do it – without having to find earlier pages to make sense of the method. This avoids the frustration of having to start at the first page and wade through much preamble to know how to do simple tasks.

As one gains confidence in doing simple tasks the earlier pages become relevant and a firm basis for organising ones images becomes clear. This attribute separates the book from many others and makes it usable from day one by a complete novice. Lightroom is not yet able to do all that is possible in Photoshop. It is however very quick to use when one has acquired the skill to use it.

Processing hundreds of images becomes a doddle with only a few needing to be transferred to Photoshop at the click of a button for minor adjustments or major to be achieved. Later where an image needs additions, removal or altering the appearance of individual images then Photoshop is the answer.
