No one of millions who has done that gold standard install has ever reported back losing software that they rightfully own due to reinstalling. It is a better install than any amount of money can buy and a great learning experience that will make you the master of your PC because you will learn what works best and how to apply it with your own hands.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I solved your problem, I will keep working with you until it’s resolved. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. I am booting off of the latest windows install media I created on another machine to do the things I stated above.

The only way I can get the machine into winRE is by trying to use dism. I do not have a power icon on my login screen, weirdly the only thing that shows up is the background image the ice cave Now that tells me windows is running in the background, when I use dism to look at recently installed packages, it appears windows has installed packages after the fact that I was locked out even Pressing a key or Ctrl-Alt-Delete does absolutely nothing.

But my mouse and keyboard work fine when booting from the windows media disc. If I didn’t know better I would think this is a ransomware or virus due to the ice cave and being frozen on the starup screen and effectively locked out of windows. Safe mode exhibits the same issue, it gets the login screen, but will not hand me control with my mouse or keyboard. I have tried removing at least one package, the last one before the issue started, but it doesn’t seem to help.

I am going to try to restore from an image backup – but I am not going to flush my windows install because Microsoft decided to break something and believes my files don’t matter. It is insane to me that Windows uses the login screen as a gatekeeper, but if it fails to load drivers for your keyboard and mouse, you are completely locked out.

Finally got SFC to run – I kept running into either a ”system repair pending” error or “Windows Resource Protection couldn’t start” error. I had changed the boot status policy to fail so I could get to winRE. I changed it back to IgnoreAllFailures.

Now sfc says that “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”. Creating a new account did nothing, I can’t get to it. The Administrator account available when I do force it to fail doesn’t fix anything either, I am assuming windows just doesn’t see a problem, so it doesn’t have anything to fix.

There is some sort of issue with the last update where it killed my drivers, but then doesn’t windows see it as a problem. When I try to get to my NAS, system image recovery off the installation disc opens a dialog wanting the username and password of my NAS and then refuses to handshake with it no matter what I try. You can fix the issue with one of the solutions in this article. Before you try further solutions, ensure the mouse and the keyboard have no problems. If possible, try to use them on another computer.

If they are working properly on another computer, it means there are no problems with the mouse and the keyboard, then you can try the solutions below. If not, you might need to replace them with the new ones.

There are six solutions to try to fix the problem. You may not have to try them all. Just work your way down at the top of the list until you find the one that works for you. To fix the issue, you can try to unplug and replug the keyboard and the mouse, then Windows will reinstall the driver automatically, and the keyboard and mouse will reconnect.

First, shut down your computer. Then disconnect the power cable If you are using a laptop computer, you can also remove the battery. Then hold the power button down for about 10 seconds. After that, restart your computer and see if the issue resolves. This method has worked for other users who run into this problem like you.

Once you power on the computer, keep pressing the F8 key on your keyboard in 1 second intervals. If you computer has already turned on, turn it off then press the Power button to turn it on again. Show keys to make it easier to move around the screen. Use this option if you want the keys to light up as you type.

Turn on numeric keypad. Use this option to expand the OSK to show a numeric keypad. Click on keys. Use this mode if you prefer to click or tap the on-screen keys to enter text. Hover over keys. Use this mode if you use a mouse or joystick to point to a key.

Scan through keys. Use this mode if you want the OSK to continually scan the keyboard. Use Text Prediction. Use this option if you want the OSK to suggest words for you as you type so you don’t need to type each complete word.
