I spoke with Elgato customer service about the complaints the Amazon reviews and the CSR told me that all of these issues would be resolved if people used the USB extender cable that is included in this box. It is a great stick giving one pc or mac one tuner that is portable and great for on the go.

I think my particular model is defective though as the remote must be within 2 inches of the stick to work. Before asking Amazon to send a replacement, I researched further about tuners. Both tuners in the siliconDust run off the same antenna whereas each eyeTV hybrid tuner would need its own antenna dedicated to it.

So in conclusion, I am anticipating that the Silicondust HDHR3 is the best home solution for a home network for me but the eyeTV hybrid is a great solution for portable on the go TV tuner if you get one with a remote that works or you do not want to use the remote control any way. I got two so I could record two shows at once and all seems to be working fine.

The EyeTV software is pretty good. I have some minor gripes with it but it’s much better than what I was locked into from Verizon. Same goes for sharing recordings to other computers. I don’t like the remote it’s cheap and I couldn’t figure the buttons out for some critical functions. I use a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad and I’m happy with that. That leads to my biggest gripe. There’s an on-screen menu that’s like what you get from regular DVRs and it’s clearly designed for navigating from the remote.

The main application screen is more like iTunes so it’s easier to navigate with a keyboard and shows a ton more information. Unfortunately you can’t change the font of the main application screen. From 11′ on a 56″ TV I can almost read it but not quite. I’ve learned to use Mac OS’s screen zoom feature and that works well enough so that I don’t need the on-screen menu. I read most of the reviews and it seems every product has those who dislike it.

Frankly, those are the ones I read. As it turned out the first Elgato I received was made in , according to the CD software that came with it.

It didn’t work at all, but Elgato, through Amazon, immediately returned my money and said keep it. Why not, it doesn’t work. One review I read said it worked for a month and then stopped. Those are the ones that concern me, but in the context of Comcast I tried again.

As others have written, installation is easy. My only issue was positioning the Mohu antenna, but I finally got it right it and I really think some stations come in better than they did with Comcast. The Elgato EyeTV Hybrid TV is pretty simple if I can use it cell phones drive me crazy and in no time I was making recording schedules for while we were away house-pet sitting, but after a week it stopped.

I removed the device from one usb port and tried it in another and it came back to life. BTW, mine gets very hot It has worked fine since. I got mine from Amazon in July My wife tossed the box so I hope it keeps working.

Others, far more sophisticated than me, have delved into its functions. I am just happy to watch our local channels, record when we are away and even edit parts of recordings to H files. My only concern is for it to keep working the way it is now. I was surprised to see that even if my computer is off it will turn itself on to record a scheduled program.

If only it turned itself off afterwards that would be perfect, but I have no complaints and thus the 5 star rating.
