There are other books out there that are geared more to get you started. I feel this more for somebody that at least has some experience with the program. Also a decent book to study up on certification test. This book is fantastic. It not only informs you about all of the features of the most complex software package that you’ll ever buy, but does so in a logical manner.

I’ve gotten through 5 chapters and really feel confident in my abilities so far. Thank you very much for this book! Book is great, you can get exercises from online. The link inside the book didn’t actually work, I think I had to find it through the publisher. Anyways tons of stuff for autocad great for someone like myself that is starting out. Much better price here then going through my school. Covers commands and guides you step by step through processes.

The index and appendix are great resources for me. Finding obscure commands when you need them is vital at times. Great help in working with AutoCAD Was using a book from the library, but after checking it out twice, decided I had better purchase my own.

Only thing that would have been better with this is that, if I had checked the “free shipping” search item on the left of the search box, I could have saved several dollars. Oh well It is a good reference tool so far. I needed something because I’ve been out of the force for about 8 years and it has a real good format to slowly bring me up to speed. You need to have patience with it as it is a large book, but you can only learn read a couple of chapters, as in choosing only the chapters you need. The chapters are wisely made, as the 2D design is separated from the 3D one and also there are also chapters separated between beginner, intermediate and advanced AutoCAD techniques.

Unless you are an experienced user, switching over to 3D can feel like starting from square one all over again. Navigating within the 3D interface allows you to view your object from all angles and manipulate your depth of view. Section plane creates a live cross-section, making the inner details of your model viewable for extra intricate depth.

AutoCAD also features an import mode t o work on files created in other applications. AutoCAD truly sets itself apart from the outset by creating a complex piece of software without making it look intimidating to new users.

Yet, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a learning curve; in fact, it’s pretty steep. The learning curve itself is prevalent with the industry as a whole and not necessarily due to AutoCAD itself as a software. For those focusing on 3D, perhaps a different software would be a better starting point to grow.
