But complaining because you buy the current version a month or so before the next version is released and without talking to the support people and before you know how ACDSee wants to handle something like that seems premature, at least.

And complaining about only getting a half a year’s use out of a product, when you bought the product half way through its 1 year only economic life cycle seems silly to me. For people in that situation, maybe you should buy the next version in the fall so you can get 1 full year of use out of it before upgrading. Alternately, wait six months and buy V9 then, It’s not like V8 will stop working or is somehow ‘bad’, it isn’t, in my mind it is still superior to Lightroom and CaptureOne, I’ve been playing with DXO, and there is a lot to like about it, except for its miserable user interface.

And yes, I too am now getting frequent emails and messages offering an upgrade to Ultimate 9. So that means I’ve had “current” software for just four months.

That’s pretty poor. Most packages not necessarily graphics come with a year’s worth of free upgrades. Four months is rubbish. I know that no-one is forcing me to upgrade – and for the first time in 5 years, I’m going to skip this one.

I only use it for cataloging, I don’t use ANY of the image editing features, so it brings nothing new. I do like to run the latest and greatest with all my software, but this time I’ll make an exception. Sorry, ACDSee, but this is poor policy. Others will have diffierent opinions and that’s fine. The program is getting cheaper over time. If you buy in the middle of it’s life period, you probably didn’t payed the price of the new product. The upgrade price in those e-mails is much more then the 33 GBP you have payed.

So buy version 10 and you have even more then a year of ACDSee for less money. Or buy all versions in the middle of it’s life period, skip the price of the new product, skip the bugs of a new versions, be not up to date all the time and be happy about it.

As a new customer inquiring about the issue with only being able to install on one computer at home and the answer from acdsee is only one per license this has changed my decision on purchasing at all Amazing how decisions can deter new customers and as a result in future lost profits.
