Blown Away I am an admitted audiophile for the past 30 years. While certainly not audiophile quality, it is probably the best sounding portable speaker I have heard in the past 10 years! First, it has a wonderful, warm sound with delightful highs and tight bass.

Sounds great at low volumes and awesome at high volume. No degradation of sound quality at higher volumes. Crank it up for larger areas like a backyard or pool it is waterproof.

Two of these would rock any any larger area or venue. I was also impressed by the the long rechargeable battery life, easy to carry handle and simple controls. Pairing to my smartphone was quick and easy.

Apparently you can order two and use them in a stereo format via their app but I have yet to try this. Only drawback is that it is not lightweight. Could double as a bicep curl weight. Honestly, you could spend 2X or 3X on other Bluetooth speakers but I would doubt you would get any better sound quality. I stumbled on this one totally by accident while watching a review on another speaker that compared itself to this one. I was intrigued so I did some digging. Let me tell you, the first thing I was turned off by was the high price tag.

I thought to myself, “who spends that much on a speaker?? After looking at endless reviews, it was clear people just love this thing. It fit every single one of my criteria for a good speaker and more. After forcing my wallet open, I placed the order and waited patiently. Once it got here, I was excited to open it up and see what all the hype was about. I was amazed! I wasn’t surprised in any as all the reviews were spot on. This thing is simply incredible as far as Bluetooth speakers go.

It plays very clearly with tons of power to spare. The bass is surprisingly good and I honestly wouldn’t want it to be any more boomy than it is. It’s got just the exact right tuning.

I love the fact that this this is not only waterproof, but it can be dunked in the pool without any concern at all. With my other speakers, it was always a mad rush to protect them from rain or any moisture. It’s no longer a worry with this thing. I have it hooked up to my Amazon Echo Dot and it’s the best thing ever. Other than the high price tag, I honestly can’t find anything bad to say about this unit.

Keep in mind, you do get what you pay for so you can expect a premium product for a premium price. I bought specifically because this may not be the case for much longer The engineering and design of this player seems quite good. Excellent FM reception. The antenna did not seem flimsy to me as someone else noted. I play a cassette with no issues; FF, Rewind, and Play all functioned well. It seems like a very decent cassette player.

A played a standard CD Sibelius Finlandia and it sounded very good. Sony makes nice sounding units. The first MP3 disk I tried could not be read, but I suspect that is because of the sampling rate that I used for the files. Standard mp3 files should work with no issues. The manual also describes the folder format required to play these files. Please leave a followup comment if you have successfully tried playing mp3 files.

The plastic housing does feel cheap but it is finished well and looks good. The boombox is also very light which could be a benefit for some. For the price, this is a respectable radio that has Sony’s experience and reputation behind it.

He wanted a clean undistorted sound and expected the 50 watt amplifier to produce such a sound. It delivers “in spades”.

At lower volumes 5 thru 10 with the double bass on you boost bass and mid-range frequencys using the graphic equalizer “jazz” setting. What you hear is a full, rich, and clear sound. Other equalizer choices include pop, samba, rock, and techno – each has a different character for different listeners.

Volume 11 thru 20 – the sound remains rich and fills the room with the double bass turned off. If the unit’s side resonators are bounced forward by walls or a corner location the sound platform is expanded. Volume over 21 top volume is 31 will fill a large room with sound. The “CD” player mode allows repeat one, repeat album, repeat all, shuffle and off. The Bluetooth connected to my phone Samsung just fine and Pandora sounds great.

He is very satisfied with the Philips Boom Box. However, if you are expecting the bass to sound like a sub woofer you will be disappointed. If you want the bass to be a balanced part of the music this is a great unit that will not disappoint. Not normally the amount I’d spend on bathroom tunes but I’m sick of buying junk that just stops working 4 months down the road.

Only had this for a week but it sounds awesome, for sure overkill for a bathroom! If it turns into complete junk within a year, I will update this and let you know. I was looking for an old school type boombox for the covered patio in the backyard, with some modern features like Bluetooth and USB.

It’s basically just that, and I’m very satisfied with the purchase. This thing will crank very loud. The bass boost could be better, but it hits pretty well. The front speakers could use a grill in front to protect them, and no remote which I didn’t need are some minor flaws. The lights don’t sync with the music, but I usually turn those off or on low setting which looks good.

Bluetooth works just fine, and I haven’t tried the USB yet as I have no thumb drives with recorded music on them. Over all it was just what i was looking for for the backyard and late night howling at the moon.

I got this for myself after years of not having time to listen to music. I wanted something I could put in any room, or even in the car if I liked. I also wanted a boombox with high enough quality that the speakers didn’t sound like boxes, like the old boomboxes.

NOTE: I have tons of old stereo equipment, some of it high end, but right now it isn’t convenient to set it up, nor do I have the time or room to do it.

And when I plugged this in and put in a flash drive with just mp3’s on it, it was as simple as selecting the source with a button and it played some really great sounding music! If you want something simple, convenient, portable and, most important with a wonderful sound, get this one.

I wouldn’t say that it’s so great sounding that it’s equal to a good old pair of high end large JBL speaker, but it doesn’t sound hollow or like a cheap pair of speakers.

And these are not large speakers. In fact you don’t even think about speakers when you are listening to it. The only thing that I haven’t messed with yet is programming it for a playlist or radio channels. In fact I haven’t even put a CD in it, the flash drive is so convenient. I did find that it wouldn’t read a really large GB flash drive so I just formatted a 16 GB, and another 8 GB ones and put the songs on them and then it worked just right.

I haven’t tried to do WMA files yet, but I’ll experiment later this month. The radio comes in pretty good in the kitchen, but not so good in the living room. In fact the antenna is not really a long one, so maybe there’s a workaround for extending it. But sitting in the kitchen it does fine. I’ve heard several people mention the base is not really good, but I didn’t find that to be true for me. Note that I am more interested in fidelity than exaggerated base anyway, so it fits my preferences.

The base boost works though. You can dim the lights, turn them off, or put them in one of two modes bright and flashing different colors, or more muted and fading from one color to the next Main point is, it sounds wonderful, and transports me into singing and dancing all over the place. I missed that. Instant therapy. Wow I could annoy every neighbor for miles with the power this puts out! Not suggesting to do that. No distortation. It is wonderful! I can listen to my CDs, my cassette tapes, the radio, and mp3s from my phone, iPod and computer with this unit.

I can also record audio from the radio or CDs with the cassette recorder. I learned how to use it by myself in just a few minutes and I am very pleased with it!

It is small enough to fit on my nightstand next to a lamp and many other stuff, which is where I had to put it because it does not come with a remote control reason why I took one star off , so I have to play it manually. Plus, it had to be close to an outlet since the AC cable is not long. Great buy!

By Amazon Customer on March 25, I bought this because it’s actually hard to find a good-quality cassette player with a headphone jack. This one is one of the nicer ones I’ve ever purchased, but there are a few nitpicky things to be aware of.

First of all the cassette door is a solid piece of black plastic, meaning you can’t actually see the tape moving when you’re rewinding or fast-forwarding, so you have to guess at how far the tape has moved. Secondly, cassettes are inserted “upside-down” from old-school boom boxes, meaning you put the tape in with the top edge facing down, tape edge facing up. And the buttons aren’t labeled, so you constantly have to remind yourself the symbols are backwards on this player because the tape is upside-down.

Other than that, this is an awesome player. The other buttons volume etc are nice and soft to the touch, not as hard and clunky as other players. I expect the CD component is great too, but haven’t tried it yet. About 20 years ago I had an earlier version of this Sony which continues to perform beautifully in someone else’s household now. So far so good for me and this new Sony as to certain customer dissatisfactions contained in some previous reviews static, hissing, limited volume capability, missing cords or manual, poor input from auxiliary sources, destroying tapes.

None of these flaws has been present for me with this small but sturdy unit, which I have thoroughly tested in all these regards. The manufacturer responded promptly,but only with a email of the manual.

A beyond annoying situation, which they choose to ignore,I did ask them to mail that TINY MANUAL-can you image trying to read even a line on a smartphone-you have to do to understand how ridiculous, like a bubble gum wrapper. I pay the postage if that their problem.

Things go wrong,I get that,but why not send what I paid for- I send a paid self addressed stamped envelope if they would send me the dam manual- does little good what I can get scrolling thru email copy sent cause print so tiny! Amazon’s order info was in outer box, but just order form. You try reading manual you emailed on a smartphone screen! How hard is it to put in mail? I will pay postage. I have owned a very similar model to this model that I purchased almost 20 years ago!

The older unit now no longer available of course finally stopped working a few weeks ago. This unit has all of the same features as the older one except mp3 and the older one came with a remote control. This unit – although it works, is flimsy and the plastic is lighter weight and does not offer the same sound quality as the older one.

It is clearly a cheaper model and the cost of producing it was engineered right down to “a throw away when it breaks” sort of appliance – shame too, as it wasn’t that long ago when Sony made some pretty decent components. I am going to keep it as I am simply using it in my workshop to keep me company.

I still own ‘s of Cassette tapes, CD’s and now Mp3. Buyer beware, for a few more dollars spent, better quality is still available.

In short, you get what you pay for. I had bought this radio the first time back in December I was moving miles to new home. Need something to listen to and would keep me awake during the long hours driving.

Portability is still amazing. Perfect for most situations! Sound Quality: For the size it’s as good as it gets. We tended to use our older Clip 2 in a small group at lower volume, i. So far the Clip 4 seems like a huge upgrade in the low end over the Clip 2. It’s more about the portability and great battery life on these speakers but I’ve been impressed with how good these sound.
